St. John's United Church of
Christ is nestled in a very historic and beautiful area: the
Apostle Islands of Lake Superior.
French explorers and missionaries
first saw the Chequamegon Bay region of Lake Superior in the1600s.
The beauty and joy of the largest freshwater lake brings visitors
of all sorts to enjoy its refreshing and reflective waters,
much as the first explorers must have appreciated it.
Along with St. John's home
island of Madeline, there are 21 other islands and the northern
tip of the Bayfield Peninsula which compose the Apostle Islands
National Lakeshore.
The entire region of the Northwoods
leading up to the Lake Superior country gives visitors driving
up the green carpet treatment. But the best part of all may
well be that first glimpse of the vast expanse of inland sea
which is home to our spiritual home: St. John's Church on Madeline
Island.
